Building Speed & Plyo Capacity Beyond the Weight Room

Strength wins in the weight room; games are won at game speed. Speed, agility, and plyometric equipment — sleds, hurdles, ladders, plyo boxes, resistance bands — turns hallways, turf strips, and gym floors into training space, which matters when weight room time is scheduled to the minute.

The BFS Total Program pairs lifting with dedicated speed and plyometric sessions, and most of this equipment supports whole-team work: one sled or a set of hurdles keeps a full position group moving. It's also the most budget-friendly way to extend training capacity while a bigger equipment purchase works through approval.

Common Questions

What speed equipment gives a program the most for its budget?

Sleds, hurdles, and plyo boxes cover acceleration, mechanics, and explosive work for a whole team at relatively low cost. Bands and ladders fill in agility and warm-up work for pennies per athlete.

Soft plyo boxes or wood?

Soft (foam) boxes are the school default — missed jumps hit padding, not plywood edges, which matters with large groups and mixed ability. Wood and steel boxes suit controlled settings with experienced athletes.

Does BFS have programming to go with the equipment?

Yes — speed, agility, and plyometric training is a core part of the BFS Total Program, and we run camps and clinics that teach staff how to coach it. Equipment and curriculum can be quoted together.
